conflict resolution

Authors note: this piece was written to reach the goal of scoring a 9 in conflict resoulution. also to rais my grade from a B+ to an A.

what would you do if one night your life was turned upside down just because of a mistake your dad made? well when zach's dad decides to transport drugs illegally over the boarder to make extra cash, he turnes the rest of his familys life upside down
to start off,  the conflict is when zach's dad puts his family in danger by getting involved in buisnnes with drug cartels. when zach's dad gets caught and thrown in jail, the other cartels come after the family to make sur the dad does not spill any secrets. to protect the family form getting hurt or even worse, killed. they are put in a witness protection program.
the soulution: they are entered in the witness protection program, they have to change their apperence and idetitys. also they have to relocate. the family leaves town wondering if they will ever see their father again. they die their hair, and put in cotacts to change their eye color. they change their fist and last names.

a cookie

At the bottom of the cookie jar Mr. crumb sat laid all alone. An all around the table sat three kids staring longingly at the cookie. And almost as if their chairs launched them all out of their seats at once they lunged for the cookie jar. One kids hand knocked the jar over and it rolled of the table on smashed onto the floor.
Within the shards of glass mr.crum sat he wished the kids would stop fighting over him but they dint they kept at it. After they got over the shock of braking the glass they all ran around the table and slid onto the floor, not caring about the glass on the floor. They all reached there hands into the piles of class and reached for the cookie .
But then suddenly Mr. crumb got up and ran the children stared in amazement as the cookie ran out the door. The cookie ran so fast that it appeared that he was floating. He went out the door. The children followed still wanting to eat it. Sadly the cookie got away and no body was able to eat it. Mr. crumb was running so fast that he didn't not see where he was doing and he drowned in a puddle.
The end.

If you win you will die

Authors note: This piece was written to meet my final goal of scoring a 9 or higher in themes and the explain some of the many themes in " The Lottery"

If someone told you  won the lottery wouldn’t you be ecstatic!! Well if you won in the story "the lottery", you wouldn’t be. The short story, " The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson  incorporates many themes. In the beginning villagers gather in the square as they have done for many years. Every body who lives in the village, their family name is placed in a big black box. The names get shuffled and drawn, and the winner ,well they die.
To begin with, one of the many themes in this short story is tradition. We all have traditions that we tend to follow. Same with the characters in the story. The tradition is the actual lottery. Every year one person is picked and the winner dies. This tragic event takes place because of tradition. The people think change is not normal an scoff at the villages who stopped the tradition.
This theme takes place in another book called the Hunger Games by Suzan Collins. Theme takes place in  this book with the annual hunger games. It is a 74 year long tradition The citizens cannot  put an end to the reaping ceremony. Also it is similar because the "winner" or the person picked is most likely going to die.
Overall, " the lottery", is filled with many themes. It has tradition and death for no sane reason. Theses characters must follow tradition and in the end tradition bring terrible end to person or peoples lives.

The Sad Birthday Card

Authors Note: This piece was written to showcase the feelings of a birthday card. he is a sad little card trying to share his feelings with the reader.
Squiggle squiggle , polka dot polka dot. Happy birthday, hope your birthday is great, have a great birthday. So far my dream of being unique is not coming true.  I have been lying smushed in between many other papers that look just like me all packaged in plastic, sitting on the arts and crafts shelf
Since the day I came hot of the press I had dreamed to be used for something unique and creative. I have waited for many days to taken out of the pack of paper and be used. This day isn't as special as I had imagined . So far all that is being written on me is the same old happy birthday, and the cheesy clichés written inside. To top all of that off the person who is using the markers are pressing so hard that the ink is bubbling out of the markers tip. Poor marker, but his ink is splashing everywhere on me and making me look a mess.
Well my life hasn't been all I had imagined, but I guess maybe it never is. I could be worse. also I am home made unlike those store bought cards, I show love and know the reviver of myself will know someone took time to make them a card, instead of just buying one. That counts.

Keep living and move on

Authors Note: this piece of writing was written to meet my goal of getting a 9 in text analysis, and to break down the quote “Life for me aint been no crystal stair”

"Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes is about a mother telling her son about troubles she had in her life. She is also telling her son that life can be hard but don’t turn back and give up. She wants him to go out his best foot and keep moving forward and continue to climb the stairs of life. No matter how hard it gets, she tells her son she is still climbing.
First of all, using this quote, Hughes creates a tone of motivation and perseverance. The meaning of the quote is encouragement, and telling the kid to keep going in life and don’t give up if life gets tough. The mother explains to her son the difficulties she faced and is still facing.
Secondly, Langston Hughes uses words like, “Life for me ain't been no crystal stair. It's had tacks in it, and splinters, and boards torn up, and places with no carpet on the floor --Bare.” He describes this poor staircase as the mothers of life. I believe that this quote is perfect for representing life.
I can relate this quote in my everyday life. Life has never been perfect for me. There is always a time when something that you do not expect jumps up and gets in your way of things. Like the mother’s life, my life can be going smoothly and sometimes, you have to fight to get to where you want to be; the places that are all torn up and the places with no carpet on your grand crystal staircase.
Finally I can relate this quote to the book Zach’s Lie. His life was going smoothly with its occasional tiny annoyances. Then one night three men broke into their house and held them hostage in their own house. Zach did not expect this but just like the mother in “Mother to Son”, Zach kept climbing the staircase of life.
Overall, I learned from the quote “life aint no crystal stair,” that whatever life throws your way, whatever crack are in your staircase of life to just keep going. Jump over the cracks dodge the bad things and keep climbing. This piece has taught me to never give up no matter how hard life gets.

Ah Ah Achooo!

It is that time again. The dreaded time of cold and allergies. You wonder to yourself why is this happening to me, and is there anyway to stop it. The answer to that question is very simple, there isn’t a cure to the bothersome sickness we know as a cold. although there is no cure, there are ways to prevent this viral dieseas.
First,” A cold is a contagious viral disease that causes sneezing and sniffles’ “(Dr Hanne Korsholm). A cold is a contagious viral disease that infects the soft lining (mucous membrane) of the nose (Steven Doerr). You are probably very familiar with it but do you know how you receive the icky sickness?”Cold viruses are passed through the air, and coming into direct contact with a sick person, is the most common form of transmission” (Steven Doerr). To attempt to protect yourself from this sickness try to not touch your face, and wash and sanitize your hands constantly.
Secondly, Sneezing, sniffling and coughing are just some of the many things you can recieve from a cold. “Runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, and fever are the most common problems that you get with a cold” (kids health). The cold usually lasts from 3-8 days normal cases. (Steven Doerr).
Lastly, the cold is caught about 3 times a year. Scientists think that Corona viruses cause most of the adult colds. These viruses mostly come around in the winter and early spring. There are about 30 corona viruses and only 3 or 4 cause harm to humans. (Causes of common co (Cold and Flu Symptoms, 2012)ld, 2009). The cold is and pain to catch but it goes way quickly. To stay healthy wash your hands, and don’t touch your face.  There are many different viruses that can cause cold symptoms, but about half of the time a cold is caused by a class of viruses called rhino-viruses. (Dr Hanne Korsholm)The common cold usually causes a runny nose, nasal congestion, and sneezing. (Cold and flu heath center) You may also have a sore throat, cough, headache, or other symptoms. There's no cure for the common cold. But there are cold remedies that claim to make you feel better faster. Chicken soup may be soothing because of its possible anti-inflammatory and mucus-thinning effects.(Staff)
Overall, i know that nobody hopes and wishes they will catch a cold, but you still get on average of three times a year . it is best to take caution and keep sanitized. wash your hands and sanitize often to attempt to prevent the cold. This viral disease is bothersome but wont  always knock you off your feet. Take precautions to try not to get the icky cold, and stay healthy.

Big Field Yellow Taxi Below

Authors Note: this piece of writing was written to respond to share my response to the text i had read.
The two poems "Big Yellow Taxi" by Joni Mitchell, and "Field Below" by Regina Spektor are both poems and songs. They both take place in a big city and are expressing their feelings of sadness for something that is gone and they don’t have anymore.
The theme of "Big Yellow Taxi" by Joni Mitchell is that you should be thankful for what you have and you don’t always know what you have till it is gone. Getting rid of nature and replacing it with modern buildings and parking lots, is what is making the reader sad and angry. The reader/ listener of this feels sad and a little disappointed in themselves. The authors writes this to let today's people know that they have a lot and should be grateful for and all their nature is being replaced by modern buildings. T
The theme of  "Field Below" by Regina Spektor is  that The author is sad  and is missing being able to see nature in the downtown area  where she lives . She is longing for nature in a big city and only sees building s and pollution. To top that of she has lost her friend. the author writes this to lets the listeners and readers know that she wishes there was some nature in the big city
The tone is a little miserable and depressed. The mood is sad and feels bad. The songs and poems do have the same words but not always the same tone and mood. In "Big Yellow Taxi" the mood is happy and feels good. The tone is happy and laughable.  In the poem it is trying to get the reader/ listener to feel sad and a little disappointed in themselves. The tone is sad and angry. The two are different.  the tone of "field below" is  sad and depressed also. But unlike big yellow taxi, the song has the same mood and tone of the poem.

Retelling

Authors Note: This piece of writing was written to score a 10 in retelling. Christopher had a mother until his father told him she died. But what is this, a letter mailed from his mother to him , mailed just one week ago!

"The grass is always greener on the other side

Authors Note: this piece of writing was written to let people know that even though things others have and things they do may not always be as great as you think. The grass is not always greener on the other side(text analysis).
Have you ever felt like your parents were unfair or thought that someone else has such a better life because they have more  money than you? That is when you would use the quote " the grass is always greener on the other side.
The grass is always greener on the other side is a quote used to say that the things other people have or their situations always look better than your own.
sometime this is not the case. People assume that other families or people have a life that is better than their own from snap assumptions. They don’t always know the entire story.I have thought the grass was greener on the other side, or that someone had it better than I did. I assumed this because I was sometimes unhappy that my family was always sure about what was next. We could move any day and have to pack up and start all over somewhere else. I thought that all the people who never moved were lucky until I looked at my situation in a different light.
This common used quote is referred to in many conversations, many read texts, and songs . In the song big yellow taxi the author was attempting to let people know about there mistake. she said that they had all they needed but they couldn't see what they had and know that it is gone they realized they had what they needed..
Finally, if you misjudge all the good things you and your family have, and always assume someone has better, you will miss all the good things you have. The grass may look greener on the other side but looks can be deceiving.

Bravery

Authors note: this piece is comparing and contrasting two stories that took place during the revolutionary war.
Bravery, dedication, and survival are what keep people in difficult situations going. In the movie The Patriot and the book Sarah Bishop these themes play a big role in the stories.  Both of these portray different opinions of what it was like being affected by the revolutionary war.
First of all, In Sarah Bishop, Sarah bishop, is a fifteen years old girl, living at home with her brother and father, until war breaks out in her home town. Her family’s house is burned down due to this feud, between the Troy’s* and the Patriots.* When the only two members of her family pass away, she is on her own. In The Patriot, Benjamin Martin is known well for his victory of the French and Indian War, Benjamin Martin decided not to fight in American Revolution. But his oldest son Gabriel enlisted minutes after South Carolina joined the fight. He changes his mind when his house is burned down and his second oldest child, Thomas, is killed by the commander Colonel Tavington. These two stories are similar because the revolutionary war has affected their feelings about not wanting to take part in the war, and has pulled them in.
Also, in Sarah bishop, Sarah must learn to survive on her own because she no longer has a home. She is learning survival techniques and learning how to fend for herself. She also learned how to live finding her own food and shelter. In The Patriot all of the militia and anybody else that was fighting needed to know or learn how to fend for themselves. They also needed to know or learn how to live and survive in the outdoors without beds and home cooked meals.
The two characters, Benjamin martin, and Sarah bishop, have a plethora of similarities but they also have some differences. Sarah wasn’t fighting in the war, she was affected by it when her brother was killed in the war, and her father was killed for his beliefs. Benjamin martin choose to go after his son and fight in the war mostly to get revenge on commander Colonel Tavington, for shooting his second oldest son Thomas and causing his death.
Overall the movie The Patriot, and the book Sarah Bishop, told two great stories and two very different perspectives of the revolutionary war.

*troy’s – people loyal to king George.     * Patriots- people loyal the new America

What if ?

Authors Note: This piece is telling the reader what big event Christopher's dad lied to him about that changed his life.

Could you imagine knowing  your mother for 15 years and then suddenly she is gone. Having no mother to talk to when you need somebody to talk to. No body to console you when you are sad. That is what happened to Christopher when he was only 13 years old, or so he was told by his father .
Christopher is 15 years 3months and 2days old. 2 years ago he was told his mother passed away. He didn’t go to her funeral, because he doesn't like deaths. Because Christopher  didn’t really know was that his mom did not die. the cause of his mother having an affair with their neighbor effected her father to kick her out. Therefore Christopher had to continue on with life thinking his mother was dead. What would have been the effect if Christopher dad told him the truth??
The result  of Christopher's father not telling him the truth,  is that two parents could have gotten a regular divorce.another effect could have been Christopher had to  live life thinking his mother was dead. Also when his dad was at work Christopher would not have to come home to an empty house.
Because his dad did not tell Christopher the truth about his mother was that Christopher would not have hated his mother. Therefore he could have jumped to conclusions and then be mad at her, the neighbors and  never give his mother a chance.
Overall, I believe the choice Christopher's dad made was not a very good. the effect of Christopher life could have d with his sadness in a way that wouldn't have effected Christopher as negatively as it did.

Was The North as Equal as Assumed?

The north… all the blacks in the south thought it was heaven, but was it? Were the blacks as free and equal as the white northerners made it seem, or was there more segregation and unfair laws then we were aware of.  There were some hidden racism and segregation that people weren’t aware of. Maybe the north wasn’t like heaven after all.

We all know that segregation played a big role in the 1800s.  In every part in America blacks were not equal, or even treated equally. They could not attend plays at theaters made only for white people; they could not sit across a table with white folks and eat a meal. Some neighborhoods were restricted to only blacks and job opportunities were denied to blacks for one reason only; the color of their skin.

The Great Michegan from 1910 to 1960 brought hundreds of thousands of blacks from the South to Chicago, where they became an urban population. Not only were blacks declined jobs for the color of their skin, they also couldn’t attend certain colleges oe own any property in their names .blacks were also not allowed to major in certain fields of education. Un happy with the laws blacks started to do all things secretly. They created churches, community organizations, and important business meetings so blacks could achieve what they wanted without being held back by the harsh cruel racists.

Although the first blacks entered government office in the late 1800's, blacks were basically excluded from political participation in the north and south states by such devices as poll taxes until the passage of the Voting Rights. With the blacks being excluded from the politics some of the blacks had no hope of there every being a change in the unfair segregation.
Even though the north was not as cruel and as segregated as the south it still wasn’t equal. So when  the blacks in the south thought the north was heaven, they would be in for a surprise.  There were some hidden racism and segregation that people weren’t aware of. the north wasn’t like heaven after all  but it was better than the south.

But then again
she had an affair
with Mr. shears
so I kicked her out.

The Stair Case of Life

Authors Note: This piece of writing is my thooughts of the poem, "Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes.

"Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes is about a mother telling her son about having  troubles in her life. She is also telling her son that life can be hard but don’t turn back and give up. She wants him to go out his best foot and keep moving forward and continue to climb the stairs of life. no matter how hard it gets , she tells her son she is still climbing.
Langston Hughes uses metaphors such as, "life for me ain't been no crystal stair."
Comparing  life to a grad stair case. When doing so, he creates a tone of motivation and perseverance. The mood set for the readers is encouragement , and hopefulness for the kid to keep going in life and don’t give up.
Langston Hughes uses words like ,Life for me ain't been no crystal stair. It's had tacks in it, And splinters, And boards torn up ,And places with no carpet on the floor --Bare. He describes this poor staircase as the mothers of life.

The Mysterious Night

Authors note:  this piece of writing is incorporating the word choice skills in to a retelling of the first big main event of my book the mysterious incident  of the dog in the night time.

It was 12:07pm. The dog was lying in a big heap on the dewy lawn in front of Mrs. Shears house. I squinted through my glasses that were slightly fogging.  It look as if the dog had been stabbed with a garden fork.  I shuffled diagonally across the street towards Wellington. When I got to the yard I crept slowly through the grass.
Once I reached Wellington. I plopped down on my knees the grass sqishes under me  and I closely inspected him.  The garden fork was penetrated deep through his body and into the earth.  I let myself caress his head, it lulled down onto my lap. I slowly guided my shaky hand along his body and onto his muzzle. It was still warm and wet. My hand was cover in wellingtons blood, I didn't like that it was blood, but I did like the color.  I smeared the blood on to my wrinkled gray shirt and when that was sopped with blood I quickly wiped my hands on my blue flannel pajama pants. I saw Mrs. Shears scurrying  out of her house and down the stairs of her back  porch.
I stood up quickly and my flannel pants started to blow in the wind like parchutes. Mrs. Shears was yelling at me, accusing me of killing wellington. I didn't like people yelling at me, especially if they were wrong accusing me of something I didn’t do.  She yelled, " you killed him, you killed him get out of my yard go home ,go home!"  she was screamin like Edvard Munch's painting, The Scream. I wouldn't leave not with wellington dead. I liked him too much when I wouldn't t go she continued to yell. Her night gown blew in the wind. If looks could kill, the look she gave me as she called the cops would have killed me.
After 10 mins of watching Mrs. Shears  cry and scream at me, two police came.  They  stride from their car to the grass. I was  happy, I liked police . They were easy to trust. As the one cop talked to Mrs. Shears    , the other walked up to me and asked me what happened . I answered I didn't know . He must have not believed me because he put his hand on my shoulder and he said 'common son, the truth please."I don’t like people touching me so I punched him square in the face.

A New Beginning

Authors Note: this piece is an alternate ending to the last two chapters of the book the giver. It is  written in Gabe's point of view instead of Jonas's.
I was dreaming of sailboats drifting across waters, when a sudden lift jolted me from my sleep and I felt myself getting picked up fast and jerked upward. I felt my against Jonas as he hurried out the door of the house. Where was he talking me? Jonas strapped my into the kid seat on a bike. I felt his hand soothingly touch my back and everything went blurry and I remember seeing a swinging hammock under the palm trees, this time. I felt the rolling of the bike as Jonas started riding.

When I wake up the next time, I am sitting on the kid seat riding in a place I haven't been before. I see shrubbery and I feel the bike slowly start to decreased speed. Eventually they stopped at a place deeply hidden in the trees. Jonas picked me up holding my arms. I was wide awake and full of energy. Jonas held me close and cuddled me as he was rubbing my back I started to squirm. Then he placed his hand on my back firmly and suddenly I felt overcome with exhaustion.

It seemed that almost every minute of the day I was in the child seat. Occasionally Jonas would stop and let me down so I could toddle along and move my legs. I wondered where we were going and when we would get there.

Suddenly it became cold. It was freezing and I was shivering. Jonas picked me up and wrapped me up in his tunic. Then Jonas put his hand on my back and I felt the slightest feeling of heat. It didn’t last for too long but it felt amazing.  I can’t tell you how anxious I was to get to wherever we were going.  Finally we got to the top of the hill. And as we speed down I sensed a feeling I haven’t felt before…. Maybe it was happiness??? And the land and sky look different they were vivid, just like in my dreams.

I felt emotion and began seeing color and realized wherever Jonas was taking me was for the better and we would be ok.

Possibilities

Authors note: This piece of writing is about the events I predicted would happen in the near future in the book The Giver.
Jonas is living with his mom, dad, sister and brother. He is old enough to do volunteer work, at the house of the old. He volunteers with his friends: Asher and Fiona. They are all 11 years old and the day of the ceremony of 12 is nearing. When he turns 12 he will be assigned a job which will be his life long career. The day of the ceremony happens and in numerical order the new “12’s” are assigned their jobs. Jonas's number, 19, is skipped and he is ashamed and confused. Finally at the end of the ceremony he is called to the stage to be told that his job is to be the new receiver.

First, with the important job, Jonas starts to realize that the community once had, color, happiness, and weather. Also there was pain and war, and hate. As Jonas receives these memories from the Giver, Jonas starts to believe that things aren’t fair that other citizens cannot see them. ” why can’t everybody see them? Why did the colors disappear?” this quote on page 95 is the first sign of Jonas realizing that not being able to see colors is not fair.

Secondly, I believe that Jonas will make some big changes as the receiver; he already thinks things are not fair and he is a kind person. He wants the citizens to see color and to read books. He doesn't understand why only the giver can receiver can have these.

Another quote: “it isn’t fair that nothing has color!” on page 97 is another example of how Jonas thinks things are not fair. The two quotes back the reason Jonas thinks not being able to see color isn’t fair. I believe that Jonas will strive to make seeing color allowed again. He will strive to show everyone that underneath all the perfectness, there are problems and things people don’t know

Finally, My prediction is based on a book matched. In this book the society rules everything thing and the main character cassia, likes the society until she finds out more information about it. Then she wants to make great changes. The characters changes bring great change to the book and hopefully better change to the society.

Between the book Matched and what I have read in The Giver I believe like Matched, big changes will happen but not for the same reason. Also I believe Jonas will make a big change for the better but he will receive the worst.

I believe that Jonas will make some big changes as the receiver; he already thinks things are not fair and he is a kind person. He wants the citizens to see color and to read books. He doesn't understand why only the giver can receiver can have these.
My prediction is based on a book matched. In this book the society rules everything thing and the main character cassia, likes the society until she finds out more information about it. Then she wants to make great changes. The characters changes bring great change to the book and hopefully better change to the society.
Between the book matched and what I have read so far in the giver I believe like matched, big changes will happen but not for the same reason. Also I believe Jonas will make a big change for the better but he will receive the worst.

Looking Closer

Authors Note: this piece of writing is to show how the certain quotes in the book are important.
In this book The Giver, Jonas’s the world is perfect and under control. There is no race, color, no weather, no pain, no war, and no happiness, nothing know to the community. Jonas does believe that this is all true until he is assigned a special job at the ceremony of twelve; he becomes the receiver of memory.
With this important job, Jonas starts to realize that the community once had, color, happiness, and weather. Also there was pain and war, and hate. As Jonas receives these memories from the giver, Jonas starts to believe that it isn’t fair that other citizens cannot see this. ” why can’t everybody see them? Why did the colors disappear?” this quote on page 95 is the first sign of Jonas realizing that not being able to see colors is not fair.
Another quote: “it isn’t fair that nothing has color!” on page 97 is another example of how Jonas thinks things are not fair. The two quotes back the reason Jonas thinks not being able to see color isn’t fair. I believe that Jonas will strive to make seeing color allowed again.

Arogence Is Not Good.

 Authors note:
This piece discusses the actions that backfire on the main character
What would you think if somebody closed down a path that the whole life of your village depended on?  Your  dead relatives depart by it and your ancestors visited you by it. But most important, it is the path of children coming in to be born…? Well this young ambitious man did just that and didn’t open his mind to see the villagers point of view.
Michael Obi, a modern and ambitious young man who is appointed headmaster of the unprogressive School. He  looks down on older people with older ideas. He has good intentions but he is narcissistic and oblivious to others ideas.  One evening, Michael obi
sees a woman walk on the flower bed and notices a path that leads to the village. Since Obi’s concern is the beauty of the path,  obi decides to close it. When the villages old priest comes to compromise with Michael obi, Michael obi shows his narrow-mindedness and shows his  concern for the  beauty of the path instead of the traditions of the villagers.
Michael obi  is a static character throughout this story. The next day Obi wakes up in a mess of his school yard. His work was destroyed. The supervisor comes to inspect the school that very day finds out about the conflict between the school and the villagers. The inspector writes a nasty report about the looks of the school and the “tribal-war situation developing between the school and the village and Michael obi does not see what he did wrong , but is angry.
Since Michael  Obi’s concern is the beauty of the path instead of the traditions of the villagers, he ends up regretting his mistake and will learn a lesson.

Bravey

Authors Note: this piece is comparing two girls from two very different stories
Have you ever had to spend the night alone outside with no friends or family? Imagine having to live life alone with no family, no friends, no home, food or warmth. In the novels, Sarah bishop, & Island of the blue dolphins by Scott, O dell, two girls with very different lifestyles both loss their family and have to learn survive on there own.  Needless to say bravery and courage play a big role in these two books.
First of all,  In Sarah bishop,  Sarah bishop ,is a fifteen years old girl, living at home with her brother and father. Until war breaks out in her home town. Her families house is burned down due to this feud. When the only two members of her family pass away, she is on her own. In Island of the blue dolphins, Karana is on her own because her brother and her are left behind by a ship that was supposed to take her entire village to a new land. When attempting to survive by themselves, wild dogs attack and to her dismay eat her brother . After the only other person on the island is gone,  she is left alone on the island to fend and survive by herself.
Secondly, in Sarah bishop, Sarah is out on her own trying to find a place to live. She is on the run from the government so she cannot live in the city, or any nearby towns. Eventually she finds a cave in the middle of nowhere to live. Island of the blue dolphins, Karana is on her own also, she must find a secure home. Karana find s a cave to live in and she begins to survive on her own. Both characters  learn to survive on their own and live in caves.
These character have a plethora of similarities but they also have some differences. Sarah bishop ,unlike Karana, is left on her own because of the revolutionary war. The war tore apart her family and village ,allowing Sarah to never have a normal childhood again. Karana was left behind, by missing the only ship that was taking her village to the new world.  Karana lost her brother and was on an island alone learning to survive not knowing if she would ever see another person again.
Overall bravery and courage plays a big role in these two books. These two characters, in the books Sarah Bishop and Island of the blue dolphin, show the will to survive and determination to keep living.
