Family and what it means in the book the outsiders
The definition of family: (fam·i·lie) * A fundamental social group in society consisting of one or two parents and their children*. Is that what family really is though? Isn't family people you can count on and trust, people you love and the people that take care of you and stand up for you no matter what? That’s what family is in the outsiders.
In the outsiders none of the Greasers have what we consider to be the normal family, a mom, dad, and possibly siblings. Ponyboy, Sodapop, and Darry did, until the tragedy of their parents. Two-bit only has a mom, Johnny parents abuse him and don't care about him. Dally parents left him. Having a non reliable biological family, they sure have an amazing family consisting of the greasers. Nowadays the normal American family isn't a mom and a dad and siblings all living together.
All families are different, and I think there should be a new definition of the word family. Families arent just biological..so (fam-i-lie)* a dependable group of people, someone you love*.
